Party Food – Pizza Dip

I keep posting party food but a blog post is the easiest way to share a recipe with a bunch of people at once so here goes another one…

This hot pizza dip is a combination of two pizza dip recipes I found on Allrecipes.comRecipe One Recipe Two Both came up on the Dinner Spinner app on my iPhone while I was standing in the United Market at lunch today trying to think up something different to bring to bunco tonight.

Combo Pizza Dip

  • 1 – 8oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp basil
  • 1.5 cups pizza or marinara sauce (I used Paul Newman’s Marinara)
  • 8 oz Italian sausage (about two links, casings removed)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella
  • 1/2 grated parmesan

Combine cream cheese, basil, and oregano and spread the mixture in the bottom of a baking dish. You can use round or square or even a pie plate. Just make sure it’s on the small to medium size and not a big 9×13 one.  Pour the pizza sauce over the cream cheese, spreading it out to get full coverage.  Set the baking dish aside for now.  Saute onion together with the Italian sausage in a skillet until the onion is soft and the sausage cooked through. Layer the cooked onion and sausage on top of the pizza sauce and top with both cheeses. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.  The temperature is really not super-important. I baked it at 425 since I already had bread in the oven but I think it would do just fine anywhere from 350 – 450.  Feel free to add whatever you like to the mixture – olives, green peppers, chopped pepperoni, mushrooms, whatever.
